Blackbuck National Park at Velavadar is located in the Bhavnagar District of Gujarat, India. The park was established in July,1976 and is spread over an enormous area of 34.08 square km from the regional headquarter city of Bhavnagar. Initially, it was a protected area of 18 square km. Later, in 1980, an area of 16 square km was added to make it a sum of 34 square km. The Blackbuck National Park is one of the smallest parks in the country and yet serves as a shelter to more than 14 species of mammals, 140 bird species, 95 species of plants, and several reptiles. It is the most exceptional and suitable place for bird lovers and wildlife or nature photographers who love to capture wildlife or nature in its true essence.

Blackbuck National Park and It's History

In earlier times, Blackbuck National Park used to be a grassland (Vidi) of the king of Bhavnagar, which was used for hunting for the renowned hunting cheetahs. The unique topography of the park consists of grassland, shrublands, mudflats, and saline plains. On one hand, the park embraces the Gulf of Khambhat in the south. While on the other hand, it is surrounded by agricultural fields and wastelands in the north. Blackbuck National Park is also home to intriguingly beautiful plant and animal species other than blackbucks such as Nilgai, Painted Storks, Lesser Florican, Wolf, Wild Cat, Jackal, Rodents, Sarus Cranes, Flamingoes, Snake, and many more. The Alang river creates a boundary on the southern part of the park, an ideal habitat for wolves. The park is a picturesque destination for adventure enthusiasts, wildlife lovers, and people who enjoy being in the serene company of nature.
